Considered
to be as the biggest wild mammal in the Philippines, The tamaraw, one of the
rarest animals in the world, originally found in Mindoro is now believed to be endangered.
It is slightly smaller than that of the water buffalo (kalabaw), domisticated
and which commonly found in the rice plains to help the farmers plow the land
all over the Philippine island. They are now among of those numerous animals in
the country afraid to be in the brink of extinction because of the different activities
made by us people. Now, their population is decreased for more than fifty
percent for years that had passed, a number if cannot be contained will advance
to total extermination.
The
island of Mindoro has vast grasslands, wonderful for the animal like the
tamaraw. Now, that their lands are infested by the informal settlers and a
tribe of the Tao-Buid. Their remaining number will fearfully diminish because of
constant hunting and poaching. But according to reports the population of the
tamaraw has grown since efforts to save them from extinction began.
If
we are against extinction, if we continue to care, if we continue to fight
against poaching and killing endangered animal, together we can save the animal
like that of the tamaraws. It is never too late to save what is there that
remains.
